Lipton’s Seat: (30 Minutes) Today, Bandarawela is known for its great climate, tea gardens stretching for miles, fresh vegetables, unspoiled and tranquil beauty, and the moment you leave the little town behind and retreat into The Hideaway Banadarawela, en-route to Lipton’s seat. This is the lookout post of the British tea baron, Sir Thomas Lipton who amassed a fortune from his tea empire during the colonial era and used to sit on this very seat located in Dambetenna Estate, enjoying the great view. Almost all tea gardens across the gap and the valley belonged to him.

Dhowa temple: (30 minutes) a Buddhist shrine located about six kilometers from the town dates back to the first century BC, during which period King Walagambahu retreated to this area to mass troupes to fights the Cholas. Bandarawela was converted into the capital city during the WWII by the British and most of the colonial past remains in the town, most famous being the Cargill’s building and the St.Thomas college church. .....
